Domestic Electrical Work: Is regulated by Part P for the Building Regulations, some types of work must be reported to the Local Authority’s Building Control, in one of two ways: LABC may be informed 48 hours before the work starts or a member of a competent persons scheme may notify LABC up to 30 days after the work has been completed. In both cases the LABC may decide to inspect the work, but if the work is carried out by a suitably qualified person, who issues the correct paperwork they may decide not to inspect the work. Light and Power, do not belong to a Part P scheme, preferring to notify the LABC before commencing works if necessary, Note: the LABC can not charge you for an independent inspection (if they decide to audit our work at your property), if we have completed an inspection and sent it to them at the time of the work, we use well qualified staff who would meet the requirements of a Part P scheme but fail to see the need to pay large amounts of money to a scheme operator every year just so we can submit notification after rather than before we start work. Many works DO NOT require the involvement of Local Authority’s Building
Control, here is a list of things they DO NOT need to be informed about:
Notes: (a) On condition that the replacement cable has the same current-carrying capacity, follows the same route and does not serve more than one sub-circuit through a distribution board (b) If the circuit's protective measures are unaffected (c) If the circuit's protective measures and current-carrying capacity of conductors are unaffected by increased thermal insulation (d) Special locations and installations are listed below (e) Only if the existing circuit protective device is suitable and provides protection for the modified circuit, and other relevant safety provisions are satisfactory (f) Such work shall comply with other applicable legislation, such as the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations
